A Good Hair Day: a Short Piece
August 12, 2014
OK, I admit it…I’m a bit weird. My hairdresser said, ‘In all my years I’ve never had a request like that!’.
I’d just had most of my hair chopped off. Could she bag the lopped hair please and I’d take it home to the birds. She looked askance at me but you know how it is: the customer’s always right.
It’s spring in Sydney and nest construction is underway everywhere.
The hair flopped out of the bag onto the front deck. I didn’t need to put out a sign: Free clean hair, ideal for nest lining, only 1 careful user.
The next morning…well…see pic! And they’ve been back and back. My silky locks are now lining prickly cups of twigs in the treetops. Is there no end to this recycler’s ego?
